For residents of Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Sheikh Zayed Road and all of Business Bay: expert HIV and STD counselling on WhatsApp, chat, voice or video.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD · Updated
Overview
Business Bay and Downtown Dubai, around Burj Khalifa and DIFC, are the city's corporate core.
Executives, bankers, consultants and frequent business travellers make up many of our clients here. Their concern is often discretion above all: they cannot be seen at a clinic, cannot take a call in an open-plan office, and want precise, expert answers in very little time. An early-morning or late-evening WhatsApp session, with 24x7 support, fits around even the busiest calendar.
If you have been looking for an HIV doctor in Business Bay, or for STD and HIV testing and treatment nearby, this page explains what to do, in what order, and where online counselling fits. Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, consults people in Business Bay privately, in Hindi or English.
We also counsel people in nearby Karama, Jumeirah and Al Barsha, and across Dubai and the UAE.
The program
Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, leads the HIV Testing Counselling program. An Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, he has spent over 25 years managing and treating patients from many countries, many of them expatriates living in the Gulf. Every session follows WHO guidelines and the EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Know before you test
Many expatriates around Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall are afraid to even ask a question about HIV. Understanding the rules, and what counselling can and cannot do, is the first step to a calm decision.
HIV screening is part of the UAE's residence-visa medical fitness process. According to the UAE Government, residence applicants must be free of communicable diseases including HIV and TB.
HIV and STD testing in Dubai is carried out by facilities licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), which follow UAE regulations, including the notification of certain infectious diseases such as HIV.
Counselling gives you accurate information and a clear plan before you act. It is private, unhurried and available in Hindi or English.
We are doctors, not lawyers. We never advise anyone to sidestep lawful requirements; for visa or employment questions, please speak to a qualified UAE legal professional.

Local care
Most people looking for an infectious disease doctor in Business Bay need one of three things: a test, an explanation, or ongoing care. Tests and treatment come from infectious disease clinics at DHA hospitals and DHA-licensed private hospitals. The unhurried, private explanation, before and after, is what our counselling adds.

Dr. Yuvraj Monga is an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician (MBBS, MD) with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of practice. For people in Business Bay he provides online counselling and guidance from India; tests, examinations and prescriptions in the UAE must come from a provider licensed there.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.

Facts first: what happened, when, and whether PEP is still possible.
Calm, practical support for the waiting days.
One-to-one time for every question, in your language.
The right tests on the right dates, results explained.
Testing journey
Good HIV testing has two conversations around it. Before the test: the right test at the right time. After the test: what the result really means for you. People in Business Bay often get the test without either conversation, which is why so many stay anxious after a negative result.
Exposure review, PEP check, the right test type and date, how results are shared.
A 4th-generation antigen/antibody blood test at a licensed laboratory.
Support through the wait, without constant symptom-checking.
Your result explained in context, retest dates if needed, and a prevention or care plan.
A structured discussion when a result is given: is the result final for your exposure date, is another test needed, how do you stay protected, and, if it is reactive, what happens next. For people in Business Bay, it is often the conversation they never got at the laboratory counter.
Most fear begins with a screening report nobody explained. Was it a 4th-generation test or antibody-only? Taken at 2 weeks or 6? Does “reactive” mean positive? HIV screening test counselling answers those questions before and after you test.
Results
“How long do HIV test results take?” There are really two answers: how soon after an exposure a test becomes reliable, and how long the laboratory takes to report. For people in Business Bay, a realistic picture looks like this:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| Nucleic acid (RNA) test | Earliest detection, from roughly 10 days onwards | Usually a few days |
| 4th-generation antigen/antibody test | Detects most infections by about 6 weeks | Often within a day or two at many UAE laboratories |
| Antibody-only rapid test | Trustworthy from about 3 months | A few minutes; reactive results go to the lab |
| Confirmatory testing | Done only after a reactive screen | Adds several more days at a reference laboratory |
While you wait, resist the urge to retest every few days; it rarely helps. If a result is delayed, a quick call to the laboratory usually explains why. Our guide to the window period explains the timing, and how the HIV window period affects accuracy goes deeper.

Confirmation
People often ask us, “What test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV?” The answer is a confirmation process with several steps:
A highly sensitive 4th-generation antigen/antibody test, or a rapid test. Its job is to miss nothing, so reactive screens must be checked.
A different assay, such as an HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody differentiation test or a Western blot, run at a reference laboratory.
When results disagree, or infection may be very recent, a nucleic acid test detects the virus directly.
A fresh blood sample rules out any mix-up before a final answer is given.
“Serology” means blood tests for antibodies and antigen. In a serology test counselling session we go through your report line by line: the assay used, the cut-off values, and what “reactive”, “non-reactive” or “indeterminate” really mean. You can share a photo of the report with your name covered.
After your result
Post-test counselling for HIV depends entirely on what the report says. Here is a simple decoder, and what we cover with clients in Business Bay for each result:
Means: No HIV detected by that test.
Next: Conclusive only if taken after the window period for that test type. Otherwise, retest on the right date.
Means: The screening test found something that needs checking.
Next: Not a diagnosis. A confirmatory test is always done before anyone is told they have HIV.
Means: The confirmatory test was unclear.
Next: Usually a non-specific reaction; a repeat sample or RNA test a few weeks later settles it.
Means: HIV infection confirmed by two different tests.
Next: Treatment works: most people reach an undetectable viral load within months. Specialist care follows.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.
Local support
Long hours and open-plan offices leave little room for a private call. We keep sessions short, precise and scheduled around your day, with answers you can act on immediately.
Hospitality work means long shifts and little privacy. If something happened, message us early for a PEP decision and a simple, clear plan.
HIV basics
HIV is a virus that gradually depletes the CD4 cells which coordinate the body's defences. It needs a specific route, mainly condomless sex or shared injecting equipment. Without treatment it can progress to AIDS; with treatment, people live long, healthy lives.
Acute HIV, if it causes symptoms at all, looks like a bad flu: fever, sore throat, rash and swollen lymph nodes. In the UAE heat, tiredness and headaches are common for many reasons, which is why symptom-checking online so often makes anxiety worse.
