For residents of JBR, Marina Walk, Al Sufouh and all of Dubai Marina: expert HIV and STD counselling on WhatsApp, chat, voice or video.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD · Updated
Overview
Dubai Marina and JBR are the city's busiest waterfront districts, packed with residents, tourists, bars and beach clubs.
Weekend brunches, beach parties and dating apps are a big part of life in the Marina, and so are the anxious Monday mornings that sometimes follow. Many of our Marina and JBR clients are professionals in their twenties and thirties, both Indian and international, who had a condom break or a casual encounter and now cannot stop thinking about it. The most valuable thing we offer is speed: a same-day decision on PEP and a clear testing plan.
If you have been looking for an HIV doctor in Dubai Marina, or for STD and HIV testing and treatment nearby, this page explains what to do, in what order, and where online counselling fits. Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, consults people in Dubai Marina privately, in Hindi or English.
We also counsel people in nearby Jumeirah Lakes Towers, Al Barsha and Jumeirah Village Circle, and across Dubai and the UAE.
The program
Behind this page is the HIV Testing Counselling program of Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician with a fellowship in infectious diseases. Over 25 years he has managed and treated patients from around the world, many of them working in the UAE and the wider Gulf. His counselling follows WHO guidelines and the EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Know before you test
For people living in Dubai Marina, an HIV question rarely feels purely medical. It is tied up with work, residence status and family. Here is what residents should know, stated plainly and responsibly.
HIV screening is part of the UAE's residence-visa medical fitness process. According to the UAE Government, residence applicants must be free of communicable diseases including HIV and TB.
HIV and STD testing in Dubai is carried out by facilities licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), which follow UAE regulations, including the notification of certain infectious diseases such as HIV.
Counselling gives you accurate information and a clear plan before you act. It is private, unhurried and available in Hindi or English.
Counselling does not replace legal advice. For anything about visas, employment or the law, consult a qualified professional in the UAE; we will never suggest avoiding lawful obligations.

Dr. Yuvraj Monga is an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician (MBBS, MD) with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of practice. For people in Dubai Marina he provides online counselling and guidance from India; tests, examinations and prescriptions in the UAE must come from a provider licensed there.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.

An honest review of what happened. PEP timing first.
Calm, practical support for the waiting days.
One-to-one time for every question, in your language.
A dated plan and clear guidance alongside your UAE care.
Testing journey
Good HIV testing has two conversations around it. Before the test: the right test at the right time. After the test: what the result really means for you. People in Dubai Marina often get the test without either conversation, which is why so many stay anxious after a negative result.
Exposure review, PEP check, the right test type and date, how results are shared.
A 4th-generation antigen/antibody blood test at a licensed laboratory.
Practical tools for the anxious days, and no needless repeat tests.
What it means for you, whether to retest, and what to do next.
The part of HIV testing that answers: “So what does this mean for me?” A doctor or counsellor explains your result against your exposure date and test type, tells you whether you need another test, and helps you take the next step, whatever the result.
Most fear begins with a screening report nobody explained. Was it a 4th-generation test or antibody-only? Taken at 2 weeks or 6? Does “reactive” mean positive? HIV screening test counselling answers those questions before and after you test.
Results
Knowing the real HIV test results time helps you plan and stops you reading meaning into a delay. Laboratories in Dubai are generally quick, but the more important clock is the window period:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| Nucleic acid (RNA) test | Earliest detection, from roughly 10 days onwards | Usually a few days |
| 4th-generation antigen/antibody test | Detects most infections by about 6 weeks | Often within a day or two at many UAE laboratories |
| Rapid antibody test | Reliable from about 12 weeks | Minutes; a reactive result needs lab confirmation |
| Confirmation after a reactive screen | Supplementary assays at a reference lab | Several additional days |
Turnaround times vary by laboratory; ask when you book. If you took PEP, follow-up HIV tests are usually planned about 4–6 weeks and 3 months after the exposure. Read more about how the HIV window period affects accuracy and our own guide to the window period.

Confirmation
What test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV? Not one test, but a sequence. Nobody should be diagnosed on a single screening result:
A highly sensitive 4th-generation antigen/antibody test, or a rapid test. Its job is to miss nothing, so reactive screens must be checked.
Usually an antibody differentiation test or Western blot at a reference laboratory: two independent tests must agree.
A nucleic acid test settles disagreements and detects very early infection.
A fresh blood sample rules out any mix-up before a final answer is given.
“Serology” means blood tests for antibodies and antigen. In a serology test counselling session we go through your report line by line: the assay used, the cut-off values, and what “reactive”, “non-reactive” or “indeterminate” really mean. You can share a photo of the report with your name covered.
After your result
Not sure what your report means? Use this decoder, then book a session so we can look at your result alongside your exposure date and test type:
Means: The test did not find HIV.
Next: Check: which test was it, and how many weeks after the exposure? That decides whether it is final.
Means: A sensitive screening test flagged the sample.
Next: Further testing in a reference laboratory is needed; a small share of reactive screens are false alarms.
Means: Neither clearly positive nor clearly negative.
Next: Common causes include cross-reacting antibodies or very early infection. A repeat test usually gives the answer.
Means: Confirmed by supplementary testing.
Next: Life-changing news, but HIV is now a manageable long-term condition, and U=U protects partners.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.
Local support
Brunches, parties and dating apps are part of city life, and so are anxious mornings after. If a condom broke or you are unsure, message us early: the PEP decision is time-critical.
Long hours and open-plan offices leave little room for a private call. We keep sessions short, precise and scheduled around your day, with answers you can act on immediately.
Hotel and resort work brings long hours and little privacy. If an exposure happened, message us quickly for a PEP decision and a clear plan.
HIV basics
HIV is a virus that gradually depletes the CD4 cells which coordinate the body's defences. It needs a specific route, mainly condomless sex or shared injecting equipment. Without treatment it can progress to AIDS; with treatment, people live long, healthy lives.
Acute HIV, if it causes symptoms at all, looks like a bad flu: fever, sore throat, rash and swollen lymph nodes. In the UAE heat, tiredness and headaches are common for many reasons, which is why symptom-checking online so often makes anxiety worse.

Talking early is how you find out whether PEP is needed.
People diagnosed and treated early live long, healthy lives.
Treatment that suppresses the virus also stops sexual transmission.
Many STIs show no symptoms but still need treatment.
Standards
We follow WHO guidelines on HIV testing services, summed up as the 5 Cs. You can expect all five from us, and from any good testing service:
You choose freely whether to test.
Results shared only with you.
Clear information before, support after.
Quality-assured testing and confirmation.
Linkage to treatment and prevention services.
In person
Many UAE residents consult online first and then see Dr. Monga in person during a trip home, at his clinics in Lajpat Nagar and Dwarka (New Delhi) and Gurugram. Delhi is only about a three-to-four-hour flight from the UAE. In India, Dr. Monga can examine, test and treat you directly, including PEP, PrEP and HIV treatment.
Never delay PEP for a flight. After an exposure, seek care locally within 72 hours, ideally within hours.

FAQ
For long-term HIV care and STD/HIV testing and treatment in Dubai Marina, residents use infectious disease clinics at DHA hospitals and DHA-licensed private hospitals. Which doctor is 'best' depends on your insurance, your area and what you need right now. If you would like to talk it through first, Dr. Yuvraj Monga offers confidential online counselling.
Yes. Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an HIV, AIDS and STD specialist from India with 25+ years of experience, counsels UAE residents on WhatsApp, voice or video in Hindi or English. Tests and prescriptions in the UAE must come from a locally licensed provider.
He is an HIV/AIDS and STD specialist physician, MBBS, MD, with a fellowship in infectious diseases. For people in Dubai Marina he works online as a counsellor and guide; UAE-licensed doctors provide examinations, tests and prescriptions.
PEP can be prescribed by licensed doctors in the UAE. Go to a hospital emergency department as soon as possible, for example Rashid Hospital and Dubai Hospital (DHA) emergency departments, and ask for an HIV PEP assessment. It must start within 72 hours.
Many UAE laboratories report a 4th-generation screening result within a day or two, and rapid tests take minutes. If a screen is reactive, confirmatory testing adds several days. What matters more is testing after the window period.
The residence-visa medical fitness test includes HIV, and the UAE Government states applicants must be free of communicable diseases such as HIV. We provide health counselling, not legal advice; please consult a qualified UAE legal professional for visa questions.
Help reading your HIV blood test report: the assay, the index or cut-off values, terms such as reactive or indeterminate, and what the final interpretation means for you.
Before the test: exposure review, PEP check, the right test and timing. After the test: the result explained, retest dates if needed, and a prevention or care plan.
WHO recommends clear pre-test information and consent for everyone, and post-test counselling for every result, especially a reactive one. It prevents both false reassurance and unnecessary panic.
Yes. You can begin with only a first name, and everything you share stays confidential.
