For residents of Al Qusais Industrial Area, Al Nahda, Dubai Airport Freezone border and all of Al Qusais: expert HIV and STD counselling on WhatsApp, chat, voice or video.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD · Updated
Overview
Al Qusais and Al Nahda, near the Sharjah border, are home to a very large Indian and Pakistani working population.
Many people in Al Qusais work in logistics, aviation services, retail and the industrial areas, often on rotating shifts, and live in shared rooms. They rarely have time off on a clinic's schedule. We hear from men who had a single risky encounter and now worry about their wives back home, and from couples wondering whether symptoms mean anything. A Hindi-speaking doctor, available on WhatsApp after a shift, removes most of the barriers.
This guide covers what people in Al Qusais ask us most: which HIV test to take and when, how long results take, how HIV is confirmed, and what post-test counselling should include. When you're ready, you can talk it through with Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV specialist, online.
We also counsel people in nearby Deira, International City and Mirdif, and across Dubai and the UAE.
The program
The HIV Testing Counselling program is run by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, an HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of experience managing and treating patients from around the world, including thousands from the Gulf. Our counselling follows WHO guidelines and our own EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Know before you test
Many expatriates around Al Qusais Industrial Area and Al Nahda are afraid to even ask a question about HIV. Understanding the rules, and what counselling can and cannot do, is the first step to a calm decision.
HIV screening is part of the UAE's residence-visa medical fitness process. According to the UAE Government, residence applicants must be free of communicable diseases including HIV and TB.
HIV and STD testing in Dubai is carried out by facilities licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), which follow UAE regulations, including the notification of certain infectious diseases such as HIV.
A confidential conversation: an honest look at your risk, the right test and timing, and support with anxiety. A first name is enough to begin.
Counselling does not replace legal advice. For anything about visas, employment or the law, consult a qualified professional in the UAE; we will never suggest avoiding lawful obligations.

Local care
Most people looking for an infectious disease doctor in Al Qusais need one of three things: a test, an explanation, or ongoing care. Tests and treatment come from infectious disease clinics at DHA hospitals and DHA-licensed private hospitals. The unhurried, private explanation, before and after, is what our counselling adds.
Your fastest route to a PEP assessment, day or night.

Many residents' plans cover outpatient consultations and laboratory tests; check your network.
Confidential guidance on risk, timing, results and anxiety, in Hindi or English.

Dr. Yuvraj Monga is an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician (MBBS, MD) with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of practice. For people in Al Qusais he provides online counselling and guidance from India; tests, examinations and prescriptions in the UAE must come from a provider licensed there.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.

Facts first: what happened, when, and whether PEP is still possible.
Tools to stop the late-night symptom searching.
One-to-one time for every question, in your language.
A dated plan and clear guidance alongside your UAE care.
Testing journey
Pre-test counselling prepares you before blood is drawn: was the exposure risky, which test suits your timing, and how will you receive the result? Post-test counselling turns the result into a plan. In busy clinics both are often brief; a dedicated session gives you time for every question, in your own language.
Was it risky? Is PEP still possible? Which test, on which date?
The window period decides when a result is trustworthy.
Practical tools for the anxious days, and no needless repeat tests.
What it means for you, whether to retest, and what to do next.
The part of HIV testing that answers: “So what does this mean for me?” A doctor or counsellor explains your result against your exposure date and test type, tells you whether you need another test, and helps you take the next step, whatever the result.
A screening result is only as good as its timing and its interpretation. We look at the test type, the date it was taken and the wording on the report, and tell you clearly whether you can trust it or need one more test.
Results
Two clocks matter after an exposure in Al Qusais: the window period, which decides when a test can be trusted, and the laboratory turnaround. Here is how they compare by test type:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| HIV RNA (NAT) test | Can detect HIV from about 10–33 days | Days, depending on the laboratory |
| 4th-generation antigen/antibody test | Detects most infections by about 6 weeks | Often within a day or two at many UAE laboratories |
| Antibody-only rapid test | Trustworthy from about 3 months | A few minutes; reactive results go to the lab |
| Confirmation after a reactive screen | Supplementary assays at a reference lab | Several additional days |
While you wait, resist the urge to retest every few days; it rarely helps. If a result is delayed, a quick call to the laboratory usually explains why. Our guide to the window period explains the timing, and how the HIV window period affects accuracy goes deeper.

Confirmation
What test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV? Not one test, but a sequence. Nobody should be diagnosed on a single screening result:
A highly sensitive 4th-generation antigen/antibody test, or a rapid test. Its job is to miss nothing, so reactive screens must be checked.
Usually an antibody differentiation test or Western blot at a reference laboratory: two independent tests must agree.
A nucleic acid test settles disagreements and detects very early infection.
A fresh blood sample rules out any mix-up before a final answer is given.
HIV serology reports are full of technical terms, and one word can cause days of panic. HIV serology test counselling explains each line, why a supplementary test was run and what the final interpretation tells you, in plain Hindi or English.
After your result
Not sure what your report means? Use this decoder, then book a session so we can look at your result alongside your exposure date and test type:
Means: The test did not find HIV.
Next: Check: which test was it, and how many weeks after the exposure? That decides whether it is final.
Means: A sensitive screening test flagged the sample.
Next: Further testing in a reference laboratory is needed; a small share of reactive screens are false alarms.
Means: Neither clearly positive nor clearly negative.
Next: Common causes include cross-reacting antibodies or very early infection. A repeat test usually gives the answer.
Means: Confirmed by supplementary testing.
Next: Life-changing news, but HIV is now a manageable long-term condition, and U=U protects partners.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.
Local support
If you live in shared accommodation and work six days a week, privacy and time are the biggest barriers. A WhatsApp session in Hindi, at a time that suits your shift, needs no clinic visit and involves no one at work.
Many men and women working in the UAE worry about a spouse in India or here. We help you understand your own risk first, then plan how and when to talk, and how both of you can test safely.
HIV basics
HIV is a virus that gradually depletes the CD4 cells which coordinate the body's defences. It needs a specific route, mainly condomless sex or shared injecting equipment. Without treatment it can progress to AIDS; with treatment, people live long, healthy lives.
Some people develop a flu-like illness 2–4 weeks after infection: fever, sore throat, rash, swollen glands, aching muscles, tiredness or mouth ulcers. Many have no symptoms at all. Because these signs are common in everyday illness, and in anxiety, only a correctly timed test can give an answer.
