Overview
JLT is a business and residential district of lakeside towers, home to DMCC companies and many young professionals new to Dubai.
In JLT's towers, people work long hours in commodities, tech, finance and start-ups, and many are in their first year in the UAE. New residents often do not yet understand how healthcare, insurance and medical fitness rules work here, so a single exposure can trigger a spiral of worry. We explain the health side clearly, and point to proper professional advice for anything legal.
If you have been looking for an HIV doctor in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, or for STD and HIV testing and treatment nearby, this page explains what to do, in what order, and where online counselling fits. Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, consults people in Jumeirah Lakes Towers privately, in Hindi or English.
We also counsel people in nearby Dubai Marina, Al Barsha and Jumeirah Village Circle, and across Dubai and the UAE.
The program
Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, leads the HIV Testing Counselling program. An Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, he has spent over 25 years managing and treating patients from many countries, many of them expatriates living in the Gulf. Every session follows WHO guidelines and the EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Local support
Discretion matters. Support is available 24x7, sessions take place by chat, voice or video, and give you precise, expert answers without a waiting room.
In your first year, healthcare, insurance and medical fitness rules can be confusing. We explain the health side clearly and point you to proper professional advice for anything legal.
Know before you test
Before you search for a test in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, it helps to understand the setting. These are the facts we explain to almost every client, in plain language:
The medical fitness examination for UAE residence visas, at first application and at renewal, includes an HIV test. Official guidance says applicants must be free of communicable diseases such as HIV and TB.
Tests and prescriptions in Dubai come from providers licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). UAE health regulations require licensed facilities to notify certain infectious diseases, including HIV, to the health authorities.
A confidential conversation: an honest look at your risk, the right test and timing, and support with anxiety. A first name is enough to begin.
We are doctors, not lawyers. We never advise anyone to sidestep lawful requirements; for visa or employment questions, please speak to a qualified UAE legal professional.

Our approach
EXposure · Anxiety · Counselling · Testing & Treatment
Facts first: what happened, when, and whether PEP is still possible.
Calm, practical support for the waiting days.
Unhurried sessions on risk, partners, family and work.
A dated plan and clear guidance alongside your UAE care.
Testing journey
Good HIV testing has two conversations around it. Before the test: the right test at the right time. After the test: what the result really means for you. People in Jumeirah Lakes Towers often get the test without either conversation, which is why so many stay anxious after a negative result.
Was it risky? Is PEP still possible? Which test, on which date?
The window period decides when a result is trustworthy.
Support for anxiety while you wait, so you don't repeat tests needlessly.
Post-test counselling for every result, reactive or not.
The part of HIV testing that answers: “So what does this mean for me?” A doctor or counsellor explains your result against your exposure date and test type, tells you whether you need another test, and helps you take the next step, whatever the result.
Screening tests are designed to catch every possible infection, so a reactive screen is a signal to check further, not a diagnosis, and a non-reactive screen is only final after the window period. Understanding just these two facts prevents most of the panic we see.
Results
“How long do HIV test results take?” There are really two answers: how soon after an exposure a test becomes reliable, and how long the laboratory takes to report. For people in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, a realistic picture looks like this:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| HIV RNA (NAT) test | Can detect HIV from about 10–33 days | Days, depending on the laboratory |
| 4th-generation antigen/antibody test | Detects most infections by about 6 weeks | Often within a day or two at many UAE laboratories |
| Antibody-only rapid test | Trustworthy from about 3 months | A few minutes; reactive results go to the lab |
| Confirmation after a reactive screen | Supplementary assays at a reference lab | Several additional days |
While you wait, resist the urge to retest every few days; it rarely helps. If a result is delayed, a quick call to the laboratory usually explains why. Our guide to the window period explains the timing, and how the HIV window period affects accuracy goes deeper.

Confirmation
What test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV? Not one test, but a sequence. Nobody should be diagnosed on a single screening result:
Sensitive by design, so a small number of reactive screens turn out negative on confirmation.
A different assay, such as an HIV-1/HIV-2 antibody differentiation test or a Western blot, run at a reference laboratory.
When results disagree, or infection may be very recent, a nucleic acid test detects the virus directly.
Most laboratories confirm on a second sample, so no diagnosis rests on a single tube of blood.
Index values, signal-to-cutoff ratios, “repeatedly reactive”: lab reports in Dubai use language most people have never seen. We translate it into a clear answer and a next step.
After your result
Not sure what your report means? Use this decoder, then book a session so we can look at your result alongside your exposure date and test type:
Means: Nothing found by this test.
Next: Final only after the window period for the test you had; otherwise plan one more test on the right date.
Means: The first test needs checking.
Next: Confirmation comes next; some reactive screens are false alarms.
Means: An unclear supplementary result.
Next: Usually resolved with a repeat sample or an RNA test a few weeks later.
Means: HIV confirmed by independent tests.
Next: Treatment begins with a specialist; an undetectable viral load protects partners.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.
HIV basics
HIV is a virus that gradually depletes the CD4 cells which coordinate the body's defences. It needs a specific route, mainly condomless sex or shared injecting equipment. Without treatment it can progress to AIDS; with treatment, people live long, healthy lives.
Acute HIV, if it causes symptoms at all, looks like a bad flu: fever, sore throat, rash and swollen lymph nodes. In the UAE heat, tiredness and headaches are common for many reasons, which is why symptom-checking online so often makes anxiety worse.

Talking early is how you find out whether PEP is needed.
Early diagnosis and treatment keep the immune system strong.
Effective treatment prevents sexual transmission.
Many STIs show no symptoms but still need treatment.

Quality-assured testing and confirmation.
A clear route onward, whatever the result.
Local care
Searching for infectious disease doctors near me in Jumeirah Lakes Towers will mostly bring up hospital departments and private clinics. Many residents can book a specialist directly at a licensed private hospital, although insurance plans differ in what they require.
Your fastest route to a PEP assessment, day or night.

Many residents' plans cover outpatient consultations and laboratory tests; check your network.

Yes in training and focus: an MBBS, MD physician with an infectious diseases fellowship and 25+ years in HIV and STD care. For clients in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, he works online, explaining, planning and supporting, while UAE-licensed clinicians handle examinations, tests and prescriptions.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.
