Overview
JVC is a fast-growing residential community of mid-rise apartments, popular with young professionals and couples.
Many JVC residents are in their twenties and thirties, recently moved to Dubai, dating, and juggling demanding jobs. Questions about condoms, dating apps, PEP and testing come up often. Because JVC is a little out of the way, people value being able to get expert guidance from home first, and only travel to a clinic when they know exactly what to ask for.
If you have been looking for an HIV doctor in Jumeirah Village Circle, or for STD and HIV testing and treatment nearby, this page explains what to do, in what order, and where online counselling fits. Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, consults people in Jumeirah Village Circle privately, in Hindi or English.
We also counsel people in nearby Al Barsha, Dubai Marina and Discovery Gardens & Al Furjan, and across Dubai and the UAE.
The program
The HIV Testing Counselling program is run by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, an HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of experience managing and treating patients from around the world, including thousands from the Gulf. Our counselling follows WHO guidelines and our own EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Know before you test
For people living in Jumeirah Village Circle, an HIV question rarely feels purely medical. It is tied up with work, residence status and family. Here is what residents should know, stated plainly and responsibly.
HIV screening is part of the UAE's residence-visa medical fitness process. According to the UAE Government, residence applicants must be free of communicable diseases including HIV and TB.
Tests and prescriptions in Dubai come from providers licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). UAE health regulations require licensed facilities to notify certain infectious diseases, including HIV, to the health authorities.
Counselling gives you accurate information and a clear plan before you act. It is private, unhurried and available in Hindi or English.
We do not give legal or immigration advice, and we never advise anyone to avoid lawful requirements. For visa or employment questions, please consult a qualified UAE legal professional.

Dr. Yuvraj Monga is an Indian HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician (MBBS, MD) with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of practice. For people in Jumeirah Village Circle he provides online counselling and guidance from India; tests, examinations and prescriptions in the UAE must come from a provider licensed there.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.

EXposure · Anxiety · Counselling · Testing & Treatment
An honest review of what happened. PEP timing first.
Calm, practical support for the waiting days.
One-to-one time for every question, in your language.
The right tests on the right dates, results explained.
Testing journey
Good HIV testing has two conversations around it. Before the test: the right test at the right time. After the test: what the result really means for you. People in Jumeirah Village Circle often get the test without either conversation, which is why so many stay anxious after a negative result.
Exposure review, PEP check, the right test type and date, how results are shared.
A 4th-generation antigen/antibody blood test at a licensed laboratory.
Support for anxiety while you wait, so you don't repeat tests needlessly.
Your result explained in context, retest dates if needed, and a prevention or care plan.
The part of HIV testing that answers: “So what does this mean for me?” A doctor or counsellor explains your result against your exposure date and test type, tells you whether you need another test, and helps you take the next step, whatever the result.
A screening result is only as good as its timing and its interpretation. We look at the test type, the date it was taken and the wording on the report, and tell you clearly whether you can trust it or need one more test.
Results
“How long do HIV test results take?” There are really two answers: how soon after an exposure a test becomes reliable, and how long the laboratory takes to report. For people in Jumeirah Village Circle, a realistic picture looks like this:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| HIV RNA (NAT) test | Can detect HIV from about 10–33 days | Days, depending on the laboratory |
| 4th-generation antigen/antibody test | Detects most infections by about 6 weeks | Often within a day or two at many UAE laboratories |
| Antibody-only rapid test | Trustworthy from about 3 months | A few minutes; reactive results go to the lab |
| Confirmation after a reactive screen | Supplementary assays at a reference lab | Several additional days |
Turnaround times vary by laboratory; ask when you book. If you took PEP, follow-up HIV tests are usually planned about 4–6 weeks and 3 months after the exposure. Read more about how the HIV window period affects accuracy and our own guide to the window period.

Confirmation
People often ask us, “What test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV?” The answer is a confirmation process with several steps:
A highly sensitive 4th-generation antigen/antibody test, or a rapid test. Its job is to miss nothing, so reactive screens must be checked.
Usually an antibody differentiation test or Western blot at a reference laboratory: two independent tests must agree.
A nucleic acid test settles disagreements and detects very early infection.
A fresh blood sample rules out any mix-up before a final answer is given.
“Serology” means blood tests for antibodies and antigen. In a serology test counselling session we go through your report line by line: the assay used, the cut-off values, and what “reactive”, “non-reactive” or “indeterminate” really mean. You can share a photo of the report with your name covered.
After your result
Every result needs a different conversation. This is how we approach post-test counselling with people from Circle Mall, Jumeirah Village Triangle and the rest of Jumeirah Village Circle:
Means: No HIV detected by that test.
Next: Conclusive only if taken after the window period for that test type. Otherwise, retest on the right date.
Means: The screening test found something that needs checking.
Next: Not a diagnosis. A confirmatory test is always done before anyone is told they have HIV.
Means: The confirmatory test was unclear.
Next: Usually a non-specific reaction; a repeat sample or RNA test a few weeks later settles it.
Means: HIV infection confirmed by two different tests.
Next: Treatment works: most people reach an undetectable viral load within months. Specialist care follows.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.
Local support
Long hours and open-plan offices leave little room for a private call. We keep sessions short, precise and scheduled around your day, with answers you can act on immediately.
Your first months in the UAE come with new rules on healthcare, insurance and medical fitness. We explain the health side clearly and point you to proper advice for anything legal.
HIV basics
The human immunodeficiency virus targets the immune system's CD4 cells. Transmission requires specific body fluids to enter the body, usually through condomless anal or vaginal sex or shared needles; kissing, handshakes, shared meals and swimming pools pose no risk.
Acute HIV, if it causes symptoms at all, looks like a bad flu: fever, sore throat, rash and swollen lymph nodes. In the UAE heat, tiredness and headaches are common for many reasons, which is why symptom-checking online so often makes anxiety worse.

It is the conversation when you receive a result: what it means for your exposure date and test type, whether to retest, how to stay protected, and, for a reactive result, support and a route to specialist care.
HIV is confirmed in a laboratory, never from a single screen: a different assay (antibody differentiation test or Western blot) and, where results disagree, an HIV RNA test, usually on a new sample.
WHO recommends clear pre-test information and consent for everyone, and post-test counselling for every result, especially a reactive one. It prevents both false reassurance and unnecessary panic.

Rapid tests take minutes and many UAE laboratories report a 4th-generation result within one or two days. Confirmation after a reactive screen takes several days more. The window period matters more than the turnaround.
