For residents of DSO tech park, Dubai Academic City, Rochester and BITS campuses area and all of Dubai Silicon Oasis: expert HIV and STD counselling on WhatsApp, chat, voice or video.
Medically reviewed by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD · Updated
Overview
Dubai Silicon Oasis and nearby Academic City combine a technology park with Dubai's largest cluster of university campuses.
Students from India and across the region study at the universities in Academic City, while engineers and IT professionals work in DSO. For students away from home for the first time, a sexual health scare can be frightening and lonely, especially when insurance and campus clinics feel too close to their university. We offer a private, judgment-free first conversation, often in Hindi.
If you have been looking for an HIV doctor in Dubai Silicon Oasis, or for STD and HIV testing and treatment nearby, this page explains what to do, in what order, and where online counselling fits. Dr. Yuvraj Monga, an Indian HIV specialist with a fellowship in infectious diseases, consults people in Dubai Silicon Oasis privately, in Hindi or English.
We also counsel people in nearby International City, Mirdif and Business Bay & Downtown, and across Dubai and the UAE.
The program
The HIV Testing Counselling program is run by Dr. Yuvraj Monga, MBBS, MD, an HIV, AIDS and STD specialist physician with a fellowship in infectious diseases and more than 25 years of experience managing and treating patients from around the world, including thousands from the Gulf. Our counselling follows WHO guidelines and our own EXACT program.
Easy consultation, friendly follow-up. We were among the first to build counselling around the whole journey: exposure, anxiety, counselling, testing and treatment.
Know before you test
Many expatriates around DSO tech park and Dubai Academic City are afraid to even ask a question about HIV. Understanding the rules, and what counselling can and cannot do, is the first step to a calm decision.
Foreign nationals applying for or renewing a UAE residence visa undergo a medical fitness test that includes HIV. The UAE Government states that applicants must be free of communicable diseases such as HIV and TB.
HIV and STD testing in Dubai is carried out by facilities licensed by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), which follow UAE regulations, including the notification of certain infectious diseases such as HIV.
Counselling gives you accurate information and a clear plan before you act. It is private, unhurried and available in Hindi or English.
We do not give legal or immigration advice, and we never advise anyone to avoid lawful requirements. For visa or employment questions, please consult a qualified UAE legal professional.

Testing journey
Pre-test counselling prepares you before blood is drawn: was the exposure risky, which test suits your timing, and how will you receive the result? Post-test counselling turns the result into a plan. In busy clinics both are often brief; a dedicated session gives you time for every question, in your own language.
Exposure review, PEP check, the right test type and date, how results are shared.
A 4th-generation antigen/antibody blood test at a licensed laboratory.
Support through the wait, without constant symptom-checking.
Post-test counselling for every result, reactive or not.
A structured discussion when a result is given: is the result final for your exposure date, is another test needed, how do you stay protected, and, if it is reactive, what happens next. For people in Dubai Silicon Oasis, it is often the conversation they never got at the laboratory counter.
Most fear begins with a screening report nobody explained. Was it a 4th-generation test or antibody-only? Taken at 2 weeks or 6? Does “reactive” mean positive? HIV screening test counselling answers those questions before and after you test.
Results
Knowing the real HIV test results time helps you plan and stops you reading meaning into a delay. Laboratories in Dubai are generally quick, but the more important clock is the window period:
| Test | When it becomes reliable after exposure | Typical time to result |
|---|---|---|
| Nucleic acid (RNA) test | Earliest detection, from roughly 10 days onwards | Usually a few days |
| Combined antigen/antibody (4th gen) | Most infections show by 6 weeks; many doctors repeat at 3 months | Commonly 24–48 hours |
| Rapid antibody test | Reliable from about 12 weeks | Minutes; a reactive result needs lab confirmation |
| Confirmation after a reactive screen | Supplementary assays at a reference lab | Several additional days |
While you wait, resist the urge to retest every few days; it rarely helps. If a result is delayed, a quick call to the laboratory usually explains why. Our guide to the window period explains the timing, and how the HIV window period affects accuracy goes deeper.

Confirmation
If a screening test taken in Dubai Silicon Oasis comes back reactive, it is not yet a diagnosis. This is what test is used to confirm a diagnosis of HIV, step by step:
A highly sensitive 4th-generation antigen/antibody test, or a rapid test. Its job is to miss nothing, so reactive screens must be checked.
Usually an antibody differentiation test or Western blot at a reference laboratory: two independent tests must agree.
A nucleic acid test settles disagreements and detects very early infection.
A fresh blood sample rules out any mix-up before a final answer is given.
HIV serology reports are full of technical terms, and one word can cause days of panic. HIV serology test counselling explains each line, why a supplementary test was run and what the final interpretation tells you, in plain Hindi or English.
After your result
Every result needs a different conversation. This is how we approach post-test counselling with people from DSO tech park, Dubai Academic City and the rest of Dubai Silicon Oasis:
Means: The test did not find HIV.
Next: Check: which test was it, and how many weeks after the exposure? That decides whether it is final.
Means: A sensitive screening test flagged the sample.
Next: Further testing in a reference laboratory is needed; a small share of reactive screens are false alarms.
Means: Neither clearly positive nor clearly negative.
Next: Common causes include cross-reacting antibodies or very early infection. A repeat test usually gives the answer.
Means: Confirmed by supplementary testing.
Next: Life-changing news, but HIV is now a manageable long-term condition, and U=U protects partners.
Waiting is often the hardest part: these practical tools for coping while you wait for results can help. For a confirmed result, read about HIV treatment, viral load and CD4 and the HIV care continuum.

He trained in medicine (MBBS, MD), completed a fellowship in infectious diseases in Australia and has focused on HIV, AIDS and STDs for over 25 years. Many in Dubai Silicon Oasis search for an Indian HIV doctor in Dubai online; that is exactly his role: counselling and guidance online, alongside your licensed UAE care.
PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine that people without HIV take before a possible exposure to prevent HIV. The most common form is a daily tablet containing tenofovir and emtricitabine. Taken as prescribed, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99%, according to the US CDC. It does not protect against other STIs, so condoms and regular STI testing still matter.
PrEP is not PEP. PrEP is taken before exposure. If you have already had an exposure in the last 72 hours, you need PEP: please consult a doctor or hospital in your own area immediately. Read PEP vs PrEP and who should consider PrEP.
After a consultation and baseline tests, Dr. Monga can prescribe PrEP. Medicines are couriered anywhere in India, and for clients abroad we discuss the safest legal way to get your PrEP during the consultation.
In the UAE, bringing in or importing HIV medicines is strictly controlled, and breaking these rules can have serious consequences. Never order or carry PrEP into the UAE without confirming it is permitted; discuss local options with a UAE-licensed doctor, or start PrEP while you are in India.
Our vision: a life free of HIV for everyone we counsel, through prevention, early testing and the right treatment.

HIV basics
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) weakens the immune system by destroying CD4 cells. It passes through blood, semen, vaginal and rectal fluids and breast milk, most often during condomless sex or through shared needles, and never through everyday contact such as hugging, sharing food or using the same bathroom.
Early HIV can cause fever, rash, sore throat and swollen glands for a week or two, or nothing at all. These overlap with colds, heat exhaustion and stress, so we never diagnose by symptoms. We plan the right test instead.

Emergency HIV medicine works only if started within 72 hours, ideally within hours.
The earlier HIV is treated, the more immune strength is preserved.
Treatment that suppresses the virus also stops sexual transmission.
Many STIs show no symptoms but still need treatment.
